Form team Kanturk arrived just in time for this thrilling cup-tie at Moneygourney and were on the back foot from the off. Carrigaline had all the early possession, creating some good opportunities, and eventually broke the deadlock after 15minutes. Midfielder Cillian McIntyre played the ball to centre forward Brian Newman whose first time pass found Graham O'Mahony unmarked on the wing. He drove straight through on goal and slotted the ball neatly beyond the keeper.
Kanturk equalized just minutes later against the run of play after beating the off side trap. However Carrigaline picked it up straight away with Cillian McIntyre and Shane Murphy battling hard in the middle of the park and they deservedly got their second goal. This time Cillian McIntrye turned from goal provider to goal scorer when he struck an unstoppable shot leaving the Kanturk net-minder with no chance. The north Cork boys weren't here to make up the numbers though and equalized again shortly after. Their strong forward line broke and their striker fired an unstoppable shot past Carrigaline keeper Ryan O'Sullivan.
With only minutes to go and facing extra time Carrigaline upped the tempo. Conor Daly got on the end of a long kick out and just failed to score after a sparkling run. Moments later McIntyre crashed an effort off the crossbar. Finally the midfielder chipped the ball over the Kanturk back-line and Graham O'Mahony raced on to it, controlled the ball well and tucked it away coolly to book Carrigaline's passage into the next round.
All the lads played well in a great team performance with Conor Donnelly having a wonderful match at right full. Ryan O'Shea and Conor Donnelly impressed throughout and Ryan O'Sullivan was solid in goal. Darragh Twomey, Gavin O'Hanlon and Billy Burgogne all made valuable contributions when introduced in the second half.
