| U12 Match reports May' 08 28-04-08 U12 Cup Carrigaline Utd.AFC 1 v Innishvilla 5.
4-05-08 U12 Div.1 Carrigaline Utd 1 v Mayfield 5.
It's a funny old game, two matches, two identical scores but dejection after one hope after the other. The defeat to Inishvilla in the quarter final of the cup was very difficult to take. Only two players Darragh 'Daz' Corcoran who scored a fine goal and Padraig O Brien who manfully tried to stem the tide at the back, played to anything like their true potential. For the team as a whole it was about learning from the mistakes, how not to repeat them and make changes for the next game. The next game came in the same week at home to champions and league leaders Mayfield. The score line remained the same but the performance was much more encouraging. Carrig. with Sam Crumplin and Aidan O Connor at centre backs proved very committed and with Chris Bannon and Donal O Neill on the flanks playing well the signs were good for them. Mark O Shea in goal did all that was asked of him and it is a cruelty of sport that such a good keeper should be faced with such negative scores 'who'd be a keeper'! Switches were made in midfield where James Creagh, Daz Corcoran, David Deasy and Aaron Tang had the better of the visitors. However on twelve minutes Mayfield took an undeserved lead, but Carrig. were level within minutes. John Duggan playing up front for Carrig played the ball for Tang on the left, he in turn found Daz wide on the left. Duggan's clever play drew the centre backs to the front of the goal and when Daz played the ball across the goal there was Aaron Drummond at the far post to rifle the ball home.1-1. Carrig were behind once more shortly afterwards when the quicker thinking champions dispatched a corner to the net before Carrig had time to set themselves. There after although never in complete control Mayfield had too much about them for Carrig. Two further soft goals and a penalty that no one bar the referee could fathom completed the scoring 1-5. Padraig O Brien, Danny Smith and David O Connor were introduced underlining the fact that Carrig have the strength to threaten the top teams if they, at times, do not have the luck. What is needed now is for Carrig to focus on their remaining 3 games so that their league position fully reflects their status as a serious div 1 team. But at the end of this game the players felt that's exactly what they will do.

U12 Cup.
Carrigaline United 2 v 1 Kilreen Celtic
First of all a word of thanks to the long suffering Moms and Dads, to those dedicated souls who give of their time and their petrol to keep their sons in the leisure manner to which they have become accustomed too. The freezing northern wind wiping about the open space at our new temporary HQ that is the Carrigaline RFC grounds in Moneygourney, made it feel as if someone must have left the fridge door open, had the Moms and Dads on the line huddled together for warmth. At least the efforts on the pitch helped make the sacrifice that bit worth while as Carrig advanced to the last eight of this years u12 Cup at the cost of premire outfit Kilreen. This was a heart warming performance by Carrig who were dealt a blow even before the start when regular goalkeeper Mark O Shea was forced off through illness. But in Donal O Neill, Carrig have a wonderful clubman, the ‘play anywhere' Donal gave a marvellous display between the sticks to keep out the talented Kilreen outfit. Overall Carrig had the better of the chances with Darragh Corcoran especially prominent in the opening half and was unlucky when his long range free went just wide of the far post. Slightly against the run of play Kileen took the lead when they were awarded a dubious penalty with 10 minutes remaining in the half.0-1. It was the type of penalty decision that a Sir Alex could have talked long about the injustice of it all. But this Carrig side just got on with ‘it' and took up in the second half where they left off in the first pressuring the visitors goal! With John Duggan pulling the strings in the middle of the park, Conor Quinn and Aidan O Connor snaffling Kilreen's front two Carrig turned possession into chances. It was Carrig's own version of Billy Whizz, Aaron Drummond who brought them level, racing on to a long ball from Duggan, he left defenders in his wake and rifled in the equaliser to level the sore 1-1with 20 minutes to play. The game ebbed back and forth with both sides playing some excellent football but as it edged towards extra time and with one minute remaining, Carrig. were awarded a free wide on the left. Up stepped Aaron Tang and as befitting a striker on form dispatched a righted footed shot that found the back of the net. With no time remaining Carrig took the spoils and advanced to the last eight of the competition on 2-1 scoreline and no one was complaining of the cold!
U12 Division 1
Greenwood Afc 2 v 3 Carrigaline United Afc Carrig returned to league action on Sunday 20th -04-0-08, when they played Togher side Greenwood away in a twelve thirty kick off at Greenwood Park. Carrig began with a well recgonised back of of Padraig O Brien, Conor Quinn, Aidan O Connor and Donal ONeill playing in front of goalkeeper Mark O Shea, and they delivered an assured performance keeping a high line and forcing the home side to attack from far out. Danny Smith partnered Aaron Tang up front and his willingness to stay always on the last man meant he kept their centre backs busy while Tang had a roaming role. Indeed it was Danny's willingness to chase and harry that almost led to Carrig taking the lead in the sixteenth minute when the keeper failed to hold a David Deasy cross leaving Danny inches from scoring. Carrig took a fortuitous lead through Darragh Corcoran when on the 20th minute his free kick squirmed under the keeper's body and put them 1-0 ahead. The lead lasted five minutes before the Carrig's defence failed to deal with an early ball from the left side of midfield and Greenwood were level 1-1.Carrig increasingly dominated possession and their pressure paid off before the break when a defender under pressure from Tang put through his own goal, much to the chagrin of his keeper who must have felt he had suffered enough and promptly decided to go home. A remainder to all the Moms and Dads watching that we are dealing with 12 year olds! 1-2 to Carrig and the half time whistle followed shortly.
Greenwood, to their credit fought back bravely, and within 10 minutes of the restart were level. Thanks to their tenacity, spirit and by refusing to give up they did not allow Carrig to clear their lines and in the goalmouth confusion scored 2-2. Conor O Brien and Sam Crumplin and David O Connor were introduced for Carrig. as they sought to regain the lead. Aaron Drummond began to make some serious inroads into the Greenwood defence Duggan and Deasy won their midfield battle. With ten minutes remaining Daz Corcoran, on the left, carved open the home defence, three tacklers were left in his wake as he crossed into the box for O Brien to smash an unstoppable left footed volley to the roof of the net.2-3. From their to the end Greenwood came in search of the equalizer but the Carrig defence had shut up shop. Overall a very good win for Carrig and keeps them on track for promotion but there are some key matches coming up which they must take something from, not least back to back fixtures against champions Mayfield. But before that is the magic of the cup when they take on high scoring Inishvilla for a place in the semi-finals on Mon.28th

| U11 Premier April'08 Carrigaline Utd 4 Douglas Hall 1 Under-11 Premier Report: Ray Linehan.
With the title race over only pride was at stake in this local derby. A slightly under strength Douglas Hall side still however dominated the early exchanges. Their big, skilful centre forward DiCasio proved a handful up front and set up several chances for his strike partners. Eventually after 20 minutes Douglas Hall broke the deadlock and took the lead. A free kick from just outside the box was floated into the penalty area where Hall Striker Lehane was quickest to react and steered the ball neatly past Andris Bacuna. From here on the Carrigaline defence of Beausang, Linehan and Kavanagh, started to get to grips with the Douglas Hall front-men. However it was a master class display from Captain Brian Coakley that swung this tie back in favour of United. His opener came just minutes after the restart. A wonderful left-footed volley from 30 yards sailed high over the Hall keeper into the top corner. Carrigaline maintained the pressure and pushed forward again with Ryan McCarthy and Alan Connolly linking up several times to trouble the away teams defence. Brian's second came after a typical Darragh Buckley dribble. His excellent runs from midfield eventually paid dividends when he was taken down in the penalty area. Brian Coakley coolly finished from the spot, sending the keeper the wrong way. The introduction of Billy Pope at half time added a new dimension to the United attack. Shortly after the interval he was set up by Darragh Greally and shot narrowly wide. Minutes later a precision pass from centre forward Ryan McCarthy set Billy goal-bound again. This time, to the delight of his team-mates, he made no mistake. He pushed the ball into the box with his first touch and lobbed the keeper with his second. At 3-1 the game was still delicately balanced. The Moneygourney boys pushed forward and Andris Bacuna was called into action several times before the end. With only minutes left on the clock Carrigaline won a free-kick five yards outside the penalty area. Up stepped Brian Coakley and curled a stunning free kick over the wall, the defence and the keeper to seal the win, the points and the match ball. For Carrigaline Clyde Buttimer, David Corkery and Darragh Greally put in a huge amount of work in midfield and broke up a lot of Hall attacks. Ryan McCarthy showed tremendous skill up front and Stephen Williamson and Shane Hourihan both played well when introduced. The scoreline doesn't do justice to the Hall who had some great chances and whose keeper made some excellent saves throughout but credit must go to Coakley whose wonder hat-trick proved the difference between the sides on the day. Carrigaline United: Andris Bacuna, Micháel Beausang, Brian Coakley, Kieran Kavanagh, Mark Linehan, Darragh Greally, Darragh Buckley, Alan Connolly, Clyde Buttimer, David Corkery, Ryan McCarthy. Subs Billy Pope, Stephen Williamson, Shane Hourihan.
| U11 Div 1 Games Under 11 Div 1 Carrigaline utd A 0 Bandon 2 After a prolonged break the "A" were back in action with two games in four days. Bandon were the visitors for this evening kick off & from the start put a lot of pressure on the Carrigaline back four. They however found the Carrigaline rear guard in fine form & had to work hard to break them down. Bandon fired in some long range shots but keeper Kealan Daly was equal to the task. Carrigaline worked hard and gradually began to give there visitors something to think about when Sam Healy raced through the Bandon defense only to have his goal bound blocked for a corner. This rallied the home team & Carrigaline began to win the midfield battle as there confidence grew. However after 20 minutes Bandon making a quick break away beat the offside trap to fire in a low rasping shot which Kealan Daly saved superbly but Bandon were quickest to the rebound to score. Bandon put further pressure on the home and almost scored a second but for great clearance off the line by full back Luke Williams. The second half started and the play was fairly even until Bandon got a second midway through the half. Carriagline showed great character and began to dominate game with forwards Michael McGrath and Josh Cooney gave Bandon a hard time. Despite Carrigaline being camped in the Bandon half for the last fifteen minutes they could not break down a strong and determined Bandon defence and were unlucky to have a penalty appeal turned down with five minutes remaining when the Bandon keeper and Michael McGrath clashed. It wasn't to be Carrigaline's day but it was not for a lack of trying. Carriagline Squad: Kealan Daly,Luke Williams,James Lester,John Maxwell,Stephen Holden,Blake O'Connor,David O'Hara (capt),Anthony Boyle,Arron McCarthy,Scott Fitzpatrick,Daniel Canty,Josh Cooney,Brien Noonan,Michael McGrath,Sam Healy,Sam Fitzgibbon. Best for Carrigaline Sam Healy, Luke Williams & John Maxwell Under 11 Div1 Carrigaline Utd 1 Castleview 3 The "A" team started their second game in four days when played host to Castleview, The early morning kick off did not suit Carrigaline as they found themselves one down after two minutes when swift play let the Castleview forwards through to score.Carrigaline found it hard to come to terms with the speed of the Catleview forwards and were three down after 20 minutes .Jack Howard and Sam Fitzgibbon began to control the midfield with tigerish tackles which broke down the Castleview attacks and setting up the home team forwards of Ethan Mcauliffe and Ricky Power who slowly began to trouble the visitors defence and went close on a couple of ocasions. After the interval the home team dominated the entire second half the defence marshelled superbly by Stephen Holden who also cleared off the line to stop a certain goal. As Carrigaline pushed forward they were award a penalty with 10 minutes remaining when Michael Mcgrath was fouled when straight through on goal. Jack Howard placed the ball low in the corner to reward the home team for their efforts.Carrigaline could improve any further on the scoreline and unfortunatly the poor start was to be their downfall, but once again great character was shown by these young lads who are improving with each game. match Squad:Kealan Daly,Luke Williams, James Lester,Stephen Holden,John Maxwell,Sam Fitzgibbon,David O'Hara (capt),Jack Howard, Arron McCarthy,Ethan McAuliffe,Ricky Power,Ben Harvey,Michael McGrath,Brien Noonan,Daniel Canty,Scott Fitzpatrick. | U12 Cup Local Derby U12 Local Cup
Carrigaline United A 4 v 5 Carrigaline United
As a local derby they do not come much more local than this as Carrigalines two under 12 ‘s teams met in the second round of the local cup. Both teams had met their respective pairings from Avondale in the previous round and had dispatched them with aplomb to set up this unique fixture. On a bitterly cold morning Carrig ‘A' showed scant regard for their more vaunted club mates in the Utd. team who play in a higher division than them and raced into a 2-nil lead. The first scored direct from a corner on the right by Brian Coakley and the second following a fine drive through the heart of the Utd. defence by Graham Boughue who finished emphatically. It was game on, Carrig ‘A' sensing an upset on the cards continued to push home their advantage with Killian O Mahony having a big game in the middle of the park for them. However Utd also had players who put in the big performances and so it was that Danny Smith pulled one back on 20th minute for them, to leave the score 2-1 to Carrig ‘A' at half time. Now playing with the hill and the wind, the script read that Utd. would pile on the pressure and score at will, no one told Andris Bacuna in the Carrig ‘A' goal and with a string of fine saves he kept the Utd at bay until the 15th minute when captain David Deasy equalized to leave the score 2-2.One minute later Darragh Corcoran made it 3-2 with a fabulous shot from wide on the left. On twenty minutes Conor Quinn, released from his customary centre back position, drove into the box and appeared to put the match beyond Carrig ‘A' when his shot made it 4-2 with 10 minutes remaining. But this ‘A' team would not lie down and they swarmed forward like a scene from Braveheart firstly Brian McCarthy reduced the deficit to one.4-3. Then Dean O Leary with only three minutes remaining levelled the scores following a corner on the right. Scenes of delight erupted as the Carrig ‘A' felt that tide had turned in their favour. But they had not reckoned on the fighting qualities one Aaron Drummond who snatched victory with one minute remaining when he shot low into the net to leave the final score 5-4 to Utd. Managers Peter Lee and Tom O Donvan might be critical of their Carrig ‘A' as they abandoned their shape in search of the goals to bring them back into the game but such things do not matter when you see the pride and the passion their charges played with and they did equalize! Well done all round a great performance from both teams but bragging rights surely belong to the gallant Carrig ‘A' team.

Carrigaline 2 v 3 Evergreen
On a bitterly cold Easter Sunday morning Carrigaline under 12's were ‘mugged' by a very game Evergreen team who refused to give up and kept plugging away to score with their only chance in the second half. Carrigs defence led by Captain Padraig O Brien from right back were under pressure from the start as Evergreen playing downhill and with the gale at their back pushed home their advantage. Twice Evergreen took the lead but twice Carrig pegged them back. The first time when Aaron Drummond smashed in a penalty after Aaron Tang had been fouled in the box and later when Tang himself finished with a powerful shot, leaving the scores 2-2 at the break.
At the restart Carrig, now aided by the wind and the hill camped in the Evergreen half. Twice Tang hit the post, on numerous occasions the ball hit elbows, legs and bums but would not go in, one could sense it could be one of those days. Time and again the visitors were forced to kick out into the strong wind except on some occasions they chose to play the ball short to their full backs and work it up through the middle displaying if you will a reluctance to accept their ‘faith'. So it was, they were rewarded with a breakaway goal with seven minutes remaining leaving the score 3-2 to the visitors. David O Connor and David Deasy were introduced for Carrigaline as they tried to inject some much needed vim to the midfield but the damage was done and Carrig were left reeling from the sucker punch. This was a game Carrig should have won, they had the players, the chances and the conditions in their favour but this time the visitors had the desire and the luck and that was the difference.

Springfield Ramblers 0 v 3 Carrigaline United
In the absence of the injured Aaron Tang the striking duties fell to Danny Smith and Conor O Brien and they did not disappoint. Right from the off they pinned the Cobh back four in their own half allowing them little time and space to aim their long clearances. Carrig's. midfield of Chris Bannon, David Deasy, John Duggan and Darragh Corcoran were well on top in the early exchanges, but had to wait until the 20th minute before Darragh finally broke the deadlock when his run to the box was finished with a fine angled left footed shot that billowed the net. Carrig's back four of James Creagh, Donal O Neill, Aidan O Connor and Conor Quinn, after a shaky start settled and gave little away. Behind them Mark O Shea was ever vigilant to Cobh's favoured long ball and was quickly out to smoother any threat of attack and one save in the 22th minute when he dived full length and held onto a stinging shot underlined his value to his team. Changes in the second half saw the introduction of Aaron Drummond up front and Padraig O Brien at the back as Carrig changed to a five man midfield and the tactic worked. Cobh bolded by playing down 'hill' pushed on but were undone by a superb run and fierce drive by Creagh on the right who with 10 minutes gone put Carrig 2 nil in front. David O Connor came on for Carrig as Drummond did was he does best, run from the half way line defenders trailing in his wake and score with a powerful shot. Over all a very good win for Carrig with a very good all round performance by everyone involved.

| U12 CupSun 24th Feb08 Under 12 Cup Carrigaline United 5 v 1 Avondale United
A unique draw saw both Carrigaline under 12 sides meet their equivalent Avondale counterparts in the local u12 cup, with both the Carrigaline and Carrigaline A, sides winning 5 to 1,and 5 to nil respectively. Sunday proved to be a good day for football and a good day for this eager and promising Carrigaline squad of players. Changes to the starting line up saw Danny Smith introduced on the right, up front Keith Ashton partnered Aaron Tang while at centre back Sam Crumplin paired off with Conor Quinn. Driven on by capt. David Deasy from the middle of the park Carrigaline made all of the early running and enjoyed the lions share of possession. Chances fell to Darragh Corcoran, Aaron Tang and Keith Ashton but still no goal. A rare Avondale attack led to a corner and from the resultant cross they took an unlikely lead. Within a further minute they had the ball in the net for a second time but ref. N O Leary blew for a free out for Carrigaline. It was the reality check Carrig. needed as Keith and Aaron up front finally began to make serious in roads into the beleaguered Avondale defense. On 20 minutes Aaron turned his marker and bore down on goal, as the keeper advanced he shot low to the right corner, the sticky pitch held the ball sufficiently for the pace to be taken out of the effort and bobbled back off the upright, but there on cue was Tang following up his own effort to level the scores 1-1. Within five minutes a superb run and cross from the left by Darragh Corcoran saw Danny Smith smash an unstoppable volley to the roof of the net and leave the score 2-1. It was a happy Carrig dressing room at half time and Padraig O Brien , Aaron Drummond and Aidan O Connor were all introduced as they went in search of more goals.Corcoran did not disappoint, ten minute into the second half he smashed home a righted footed free kick from twenty yards to send Carrig. 3-1 ahead. Donal O Neill and David O Connor were introduced as Carrig. emptied their bench. Padraig O Brien played fine through ball for Aaron Drummond to run on to, his shot was smothered but in the ensuing confusion Tang struck for his second and Carrig's fourth.4-1. Carrigaline continued to pressure the visitors defence and in time added on Tang completed his hatrick with a neat header to score his third and cap what was a man of the match performance from him, leaving the final score 5-1 to the home side. Others to impress were John Duggan who was purposeful in all what he did and at the back Chris Bannon and Conor Quinn hardly put a foot wrong while James Creagh overall performance saw him push Tang very close in claiming the Man of the match award. | Intermediate Cup 4th round replay. Intermediate Cup 4th round replay 17th Feb'08 Carrigaline Utd. 0 v 1 Drogheda Town.
The silence that greeted the players as they trundled one by one back to their dressing room was, as has been said before, deafening!Defeat at home was hard to take but when these opportunities only come once a year then it is doubly hard to take. Make no mistake they could and should have won this replay, they had enough possession to win. But when finesse was needed they offered force when guile was required they offered gullibility. The finesse was supplied by the cleverest player on the park the visitors front man, Paul Manuodo, who single handily kept his much bigger opponents busy all day. Just for good measure he headed home the only goal of the game on the 30th minute when, from a free on the right, he evaded all markers to nod home from six yards. From there to the end Carrigaline had the lion's share of possession but had very few clear cut chances. As the game edged towards its inevitable conclusions Carrig. did bombard the goal area without ever threatening the Drogheda goal. As frustration mounted the Drogheda centre half appeared to throw himself to the ground in the middle of a crowded goal mouth. Carrig players were incensed at what they perceived as time wasting and reacted poorly by trying to help the fallen sportsman to his feet .Ref Aidan O Regan did not like this approach and red carded the unfortunate Mark O Connell in time added on. A disappointing end to a very frustrating afternoon. So its back to the league for Carrig and next up is the visit to UCC on next Thur.21st at 7 30pm and its good luck to Drogheda Town in the next round
| Congratulations Two Names to watch

| Match Report 17th Feb'08 Under-13 Local Cork Cup Carrigaline United 3 Kanturk 2
Report: Barbara O'Connell.
Form team Kanturk arrived just in time for this thrilling cup-tie at Moneygourney and were on the back foot from the off. Carrigaline had all the early possession, creating some good opportunities, and eventually broke the deadlock after 15minutes. Midfielder Cillian McIntyre played the ball to centre forward Brian Newman whose first time pass found Graham O'Mahony unmarked on the wing. He drove straight through on goal and slotted the ball neatly beyond the keeper. Kanturk equalized just minutes later against the run of play after beating the off side trap. However Carrigaline picked it up straight away with Cillian McIntyre and Shane Murphy battling hard in the middle of the park and they deservedly got their second goal. This time Cillian McIntrye turned from goal provider to goal scorer when he struck an unstoppable shot leaving the Kanturk net-minder with no chance. The north Cork boys weren't here to make up the numbers though and equalized again shortly after. Their strong forward line broke and their striker fired an unstoppable shot past Carrigaline keeper Ryan O'Sullivan. With only minutes to go and facing extra time Carrigaline upped the tempo. Conor Daly got on the end of a long kick out and just failed to score after a sparkling run. Moments later McIntyre crashed an effort off the crossbar. Finally the midfielder chipped the ball over the Kanturk back-line and Graham O'Mahony raced on to it, controlled the ball well and tucked it away coolly to book Carrigaline's passage into the next round. All the lads played well in a great team performance with Conor Donnelly having a wonderful match at right full. Ryan O'Shea and Conor Donnelly impressed throughout and Ryan O'Sullivan was solid in goal. Darragh Twomey, Gavin O'Hanlon and Billy Burgogne all made valuable contributions when introduced in the second half. Squad: Ryan O'Sullivan, Leonard Carroll, David Switzer, Ryan O'Shea (Captain), John O'Keeffe, Conor Donnelly, Shane Murphy, Cillian McIntyre, Graham O'Mahony, Conor Daly, Brian Newman, Darragh Twomey, Gavin O Hanlon, Billy Burgogne, Aidan Roche, Cian Lynch.
| Match Report 8th Feb'08 Douglas Hall 2 v 0 Carrigaline Utd
The 'Hall' made light of the overcast day and the sticky underfoot condition to record a hard fought victory over a gallant but unlucky Carrigaline side in Castletreasure last Saturday to move within 3 points of leaders Rockmount, with a game in hand. Douglas started the brighter with Mulcahy and Moores especially, to the fore. However Carrig. were not without their stars and it was very unfortunate that Tony Houlihan had to go off to receive hospital treatment when involved in a clash with Hall keeper Birmingham. The departure of Houli meant a loss of the physicality he brings to the game. However his replacement youth player Paddy Kelleher brings an effervescent energy that invigorates those around him. As it was Alan Hennessy, Luke Noonan, Hugh Shields all upped their game to meet the challenge of their more vaunted opponents. It took some time for Carrig. to put their first meaningful attack but when it did it was the best move of the match. Scott O Regan playing the role of the lone striker, played a fine pass to advancing right back Roy Coughlan who in turn found Shields in the inside left position and his rising drive had Birmingham at full stretch to keep the goal bound shot out. In answer the Hall had a range of chances and players to underline their overall first half superiorty, O Connell brought the best from Peter O Riordan in the Carrig. gaol with a fine drive on 30 minutes. Mulcahy had three threatening efforts on the 39th, 44th and 45th minutes. However, when a team is on top, the longer they go without scoring the greater the chance of a sucker punch, and at half time the Hall, although dominate, were level at 0-0. The sucker punch never came as within one minute of the restart Hall were gifted a very fortuitous penalty by ref. Aidan O Regan and master Mc Sorley did the needful and slotted the ball home. 1-0. On 14th minute ref. O Regan highlighted the controversy surrounding the 'active' verse 'inactive' offside rule when he failed to disallow the score of O Connell after he had scored when in an offside position , players will abide by the rules but they deserve consistency of implementation by all officials. None the less it was 2-0 to the Hall. From there to the end Carrig had the upper hand, Mark O Connell went close with a header, while Ken Dennehy on for Sheilds skimmed the cross bar with another header. Kieran Manley brought on for O Connell, as manager Jim Walsh switched to three upfront, played superb cross for O Regan but he headed just wide. Carrig finished the stronger and will take heart, that with a little luck the result of this encounter would have been much closer. Next up for Carrig. is their Intermediate Cup replay in Ballea on Sunday next against Drogheda Town. Our best wishes go to Tony Houlihan as we wish him a speedy recovery.

| Intermediate Cup 4th Round. Intermediate Cup 4th Round.
Drogheda Town FC 2 v 2 Carrigaline Utd. AFC.
Marian Park, Drogheda, Sunday 3-02-2008, 2pm.
Carrigaline senior team made the long trip to the 'Wee' county on last Sunday seeking a place in the quarter finals of the 2008 Intermediate Cup. Dark clouds, sleet, rain and soft under foot conditions made it very difficult to play any type of football. The object in such games is to achieve a result and with 2-2 draw Carrigaline will be very happy to invite Drogheda Town to Ballea where they will hope to finish the tie with a win. In truth Carrigaline were the better team over the whole match. In the first half the diamond formation of Carrigaline's midfield of Hugh Shields, Luke Noonan, Alan Hennessy and Paddy Kelleher ensured that lone striker Scott O Regan had enough good ball to trouble a rather flat standing Drogheda back four. At the back for Carrig, Edwin Delaney, Cathal O Shea, and Mark O Connell were rarely troubled but when they were they had keeper Peter O Riordan to call on. Deploying wing backs, Calum Jones on the left and Roy Coughlan on the right allowed them to tuck in and help out their defence, and to also, using a phrase much loved of managers, 'bomb on' and help out in attack. However the first half ended in stalemate, 0-0. The second half produced goals, the first came within twelve minutes. A long clearance from goalkeeper and former Inter Milan youth academy player Gabriel Sabatinni, carried in the wind and was allowed to bounce in the Carrig. penalty box. The uncertainity allowed certre forward Aaron Comerford to steal in and get the faintest of touches to steer the ball past O Riordan and put Drogheda one up,1-0. Stand in manager Lenny Walker pushed Paddy Kelleher into a more forward role and within minutes the switch worked. Having earlier been denied by a brilliant Sabatinni save, Kelleher made no mistake when he headed home an in swinging near post corner from the right to level the scores,1-1. On the 22nd minute a free awarded to Drogheda came back off the upright and that man Comerford was again on hand to tap the ball home, 2-1. Carrig upped their game, with Coughlan and Jones 'bombing on' on the right and left flanks respectively. It was fitting that it was Coughlan who provided the equaliser. Raiding on the right, Roy raced into the box and almost to the end line when he found the net from an acute angle,2-2. From there Carrigaline were comfortable excluding for the last few minutes when Drogheda pushed for a winner that would not come. Paddy Kelleher went off injured in the dying minutes to be replaced by Glen Bruton. This was a match Carrig. had enough chances to win, but they will be glad to have a second bite of this particular cherry when they replay in Ballea on Sunday 17-02-2008 at 2pm. See you all there for what promises to be a cracking game. Report by Paudy O Brien.

| Match report 27th Jan'08 U12 Division 1
Rockmount AFC 2 v 1 Carrigaline Utd. AFC. Sport can be a harsh but wonderful teacher and the lesson continued for this game Carrigaline u12 side last Sunday in Rockmount. A win for Carrig. would have put them second in the table above their hosts, as it was, a goal for Rockmount with two minutes remaining saw them open up a five point gap in the race for the title, but their is a lot of ball to be played between now and the end of the season. Carrig took the lead through Conor Quinn following a corner on the right from Darragh Corcoran. Indeed for much of the 1st half Carrig. had the better of the exchanges. Keeper Mark O Shea's clever use of the ball in hand meant he helped control the pace of the game. In front of him the back four of James Creagh, Aidan O Connor, Conor O Brien and Donal O Neill played very well. The midfield Darragh Corcoran,David Deasy, John Duggan and Arron Drummond were very much on top while upfront Arron Tang and Conor O Brien were always a threat. Justifiably Carrig went in at the break 0-1 in front. However in the second half Rockmount took the game to Carrig and drew level on the 15th minute, 1-1.Sam Crumplin, Padraig O Brien and David O Connor were introduced to try and wrestle the imitative back from Rockmount and it looked like Carrig. may just have hung for a point but then with two minutes Rockmount forced home the ball leaving the final score 2-1 to the home side. There is still some distance to go in this league and lessons learned today will go a long way to determining whether this ever improving Carrigaline side will graduate with honours at the end. | FAI Intermediate Cup FAI Intermediate Cup 3rd round replay. Ballea Park, 6-01-2008.
Carrigaline Utd. AFC 2 v 1 Newtown Rangers (Tallaght).
Like a good sergeant, ref. Finbarr Murphy tried hard to bring all his platoon home from this battle of an intermediate cup 3rd round replay at Ballea . However a red card to Newtown's Darren Fahey at the end meant a 'man down' and he could have been joined by any one of the six other yellow cards ref. Murphy was forced to dispense during this tough and at times fierce encounter. Under grey sleet filled sky Barry Duggan had barely finished announcing the teams over the tannoy system when Carrig's Luke Noonan had scored a majestic long range goal catching Newtown keeper, Daveron, off his line and gave Carrig. a 1-0 lead inside the 1st minute. Such a surreal start can sometimes work against a team and in this case Carrig's normal physical intensity was missing from their game, at least early on. Right sided player Alan O Duffy was a key figure for Newtown when his surging runs and clever link play unbalanced the Carrig defence. However a switch by Manager Tony O Regan saw Hugh Sheilds moving to the left and Duffys influence waned. Carrig's defence of Ed. Delaney, Mark O Connell, Roy Coughlan, Calum Jones, Rory O Halloran, found the intensity needed and rose to the visitors challenge. The midfield of Alan 'Dubbie' Hennessy and Luke Noonan gradually gained parity in their midfield battle with Newtown's Madden and Fitzsimons. Up front Carrig's Ken Dennehy and Scott O Regan tireless running and clever play kept the back four busy. Overall Newtown had the better of the first half and deserved at least parity but in goal keeper Peter O Riordan, Carrig. have a peerless net minder. Time and again he stood between Carrig. and a cup exit. The more Newtown threw at him the more he rose to the challenge. Such is the way of soccer that if you do not take your chances then you will get punished. So when on the 45th minute a straight forwarded Ed. Delaney free, launched into the box, saw the Newtown defence push out, the in rushing Luke Noonan got his head to the ball and edged it under the stranded Daveron. This put Carrig 2-0 ahead on the stroke of half time.
In the second half Newtown continued to pressurise the home defence and with 4 minutes gone Alan Duffy thunderous effort rattled the crossbar but rebounded to safety. The gaol when it finally came, on the 70th minute, was a somewhat scrappy affair, knocked in by Fitzsimmons from inside the box through a forest of legs with more than a hint of offside. For everything else Carrig. had 'man of the match' Peter 'Twiggy' O Riordan. The remaining 20 minutes was a full bloodied affair with tackles and challenges very much the norm. Carrig. introduced Paddy Kelleher, Kieran Manley, Glen Bruton for Dennehy, Noonan, and O Regan. Ref. Murphy played 4 minutes added time before blowing the whistle on a hard fought victory for Carrigaline with a score line of 2-1.
Afterwards the management team of Tony O Regan and Mick. Mulcahay praised the Newtown Rangers side who they viewed as much improved since the first game but complimented their own lads for while not playing as well as they can, did enough to win. Away to Drogheda in the next round when hopefully more of the regular players will return from injuries and absences to strengthen this game Carrig. side. Report by Paudy O Brien
| U11 Premier match report Dec'07 Under 11 Premier Blarney United 0 Carrigaline United 1
Report: Ray Linehan.
Brían Fitzpatrick pinched the points for Carrigaline with a well-worked goal mid-way through the second half of an exciting contest. His close range strike followed by determined defensive play ensured Carrigaline secured a merited away victory. Carrigaline slightly shaded the first half creating the better chances of the two teams. Ryan McCarthy hit a stunning volley from 20 yards but with the keeper soundly beaten the ball crashed off the underside of the crossbar and Adam Cohalan was very unlucky not to finish off the rebound. David Corkery and Darragh Buckley teamed up very well in the opening interval and dominated the midfield exchanges. Ten minutes into the second half a well-timed pass from Mark Linehan set up Matthew O'Reilly. The in-form striker burst through the Blarney defence and pushed a perfect pass into the path of the in-rushing Fitzpatrick. His right-footed shot left the keeper with no chance. Blarney United moved up a notch after conceding this goal and were determined to get back on level terms. However the Carrigaline defence, superbly marshalled by Brian Coakley and Kieran Kavanagh, limited the Blarney attack to long range shots, which were confidently dealt with by the Carrigaline keeper, Andris Bacuna. Carrigaline had two late chances to seal the victory but were denied on both occasions. Alan Connolly's slick pass sent Matthew O'Reilly on a diagonal run across the box but his left-footed shot just shaved the outside of the post while Darragh Buckley's strike after a wonderful run was well saved by the Blarney net-minder. David Corkery had his finest game to date and excelled in midfield. The entire defence was excellent and Séan Brophy, Micháel Beausang and Darragh Greally worked tirelessly for the team. Alan Connolly showed his usual deft touches when introduced in the second half and Andris Bacuna was very impressive between the posts. Team: Andris Bacuna, Séan Brophy, Brian Coakley, Kieran Kavanagh, Mark Linehan, Daniel O'Reilly, Darragh Greally, Cathal Murphy, Micháel Beausang, Darragh Buckley, Matthew O'Reilly, Alan Connolly, Clyde Buttimer, Brían Fitzpatrick, Adam Cohalan, David Corkery, Ryan McCarthy.
| Under 11 Div 1 Dec 07 Under 11 Div.1 Carrigaline united "A" 0 Riverstown 2 Carrigaline & Riverstown kept up with the festive season as both teams helped produce a feast of football which would have been a credit to any league. From the kick off both teams got onto their stride playing free flowing football with great passing moves and plenty of attacking play. Both teams were evenly matched with debut boy Jack Howard playing great football and tormenting the Riverstown defence with great link up play with Josh Cooney on the wing.Sam Healy played well in midfield surging forward to cause problems for the Riverstown defence but credit to Riverstown their defence stood firm. From a throw in on the left Rivestown played the ball to the opposite flank & caught the Carrigaline defence (who up to that point were very solid) flatfooted to score low in the corner after 19 minutes.Carrigaline got straight back into the game and spent the rest of the half in Riverstown's half of the pitch. Three corners in sucession meant desperate defending by Riverstown and Carrigaline were denied three times when somehow Riverstown managed to get blocks in to deny Carrigaline an equaliser before the break.Carrigaline were confident of achieving a result at half time and the second half produced more exciting football.Carrigaline's defence played very well mainly with Luke Johnson in the centre cutting out many through balls and Luke Williams who had a very busy morning shutting up shop on the right. With ten minutes remaing Riverstown's striker using his superior strenght and height to break through the home defence to score the visitors second.Again Carrigline rallied and finished the stronger and skipper David O'Hara shot narrowly wide in the closing minutes. Carrigaline were unlucky not to get something out of this game and by the Riverstown's manager's own words this was their toughest game so far this season.Best for Carrigaline were Luke Williams and Jack Howard. | U12 Match 15th Dec 07 Back to winning ways
Carrigaline Utd. AFC. 2 v 1 Greenwood Utd.
While Santa and Cork Citys Denis Behan were in the clubhouse giving gifts to the younger members of the Carrigaline Academy, Carrig's under 12s side gifted an early goal to visitors Greenwood Utd.in their league tie at Ballea Park on saturday last. The sluggish start could have been more costly were it not for the collective response ably lead by captain David Deasy. One down after 11 minutes the back four of Padraig O Brien, Conor Quinn, James Creagh and Donal O Neill realised they were in a game and began to dominate their opponents. The assured play of Mark O Shea in goal instilled confidence in his fellow defenders and the more the game went on the more you felt the it would turn. A fine strike by Darragh Corcoran with the outside of his left foot should have levelled the score but for a superb save from the Greenwood keeper. The score remained 0-1 at halftime. With the Carrigaline defence now firmly on top their midfield of Deasy, Corcoran, Aaron Drummond and John Duggan found the measure of their opponents and the chances came but, still no goals.Up front Danny Smith's intelligent play deserved something better while strike partner Aaron Tang had the beating of his marker but could not find his customery finish.Personnel changes saw the intoduction of Chris Bannon and Conor O Brien as Carrig commited more men to attack. With 15 minutes remaining Darragh Corcoran's run along the end line combined skill and determination and ended with him squeezing the ball past the keeper at the near post and finally level the scores at 1-1.On twenty minutes Deasy won two tackles on the left side of midfield and fed the vigilant Tang in the outside left position.Aaron 'skinned' his marker and drove the ball across the goal for the in rushing Conor O Brien to score at the far post. 2-1 to Carrig. Sam Crumplin came on to further strenghten a bouyant Carrigaline side as Greenwood sought to score an equilizer but it would have been an injustice had they done so. Referee Richard Bond, who had a good game, played 5 minutes added time before blowing the whistle on a well deserved victory for Carrigaline. Next up for Carrig, are league favourites Mayfield on the 29th in Ballea. In the meantime Happy Christmas to all from this happy bunch of u12s.

Carrigaline Utd 0 Blarney Utd 2
After the exciting win in the ‘cup' last week it was back to league action this week for this in juried plagued Carrigaline side as both Roy Coughlan and Steve Mangan joined the burgeoning list. Manager Tony O Regan could well be found singing that ditty ‘if it wasn't for bad luck I have no luck at all'. In truth Carrigaline got as much out of this game as they deserved, nothing! The first half was entirely dominated by an aggressive if wasteful Blarney side anxious to make up ground on those above them after three draws. Carrigs defence and especially keeper Peter O Riordan were under considerable pressure throughout the first half but a single goal, following a corner in the 16th minute, was all Blarney had to show for the first half. 0-1 to Blarney. Within two minutes of the restart any hope of a revival in Carrigs fortune were put on hold when their failure to deal effectively with a ball, in their own box, led to a penalty after Blarney's Paul Hogan was upended. 0-2 to Blarney. Blarney continued their stranglehold on the game until the final quarter when Luke Noonan and Tony Houlihan were introduced for Garrig. Finally Carrig. began to exert meaningful pressure, chances came to Calum Jones, Damian Hess, Kieran Manley, Ken Dennehy and Rory O Halloran but to no avail. Carrigaline finished on the up but in truth the ‘game' was well and truly up from a long way out for this very game but ultimately toothless outfit. Carriagline know that they will have to up their performance considerable if they are to survive in this premier league and just for luck they face title favourites Avondale next!

A few changes at half time helped Carrigaline to get into the game more with strong defending from Luke Johnson & Stephen Holden & great goalkeeping once again from Kealan Daly. Carrigaline grew in confidence and some good play down the wings by Scott Fitzpatrick & Josh Cooney to feed strikers Luke Williams & Michael McGrath who were unlucky on their breaks not to get the bounce of the ball which allowed Greenwood's defenders to get to cover.Greenwood got a fourth midway through the second half but Carrigaline kept playing right to the final whistle. Although another defeat, this Carrigaline team who are playing in a very tough division are showing great promise and are determined to get there first win. Carrigaline United 1-0 Ringmahon Rangers
The Under 16 Premier team went to the top of the league after their 1 nil victory over Ringmahon Rangers at Ballea Park on Sunday. The victory was hard earned against a plucky Ringmahon outfit. Carrigaline took the lead half way through the second half when Wayne Bruton scored. Carrigaline were awarded a free on the edge of the penalty area when Dean Kelly was fouled on a typical mazy dribble. Dave Drake's shot from the free was blocked by the wall which fell to Wayne whose shot was also blocked the ball again it fell to Bruton who this time blasted to the roof of the net. They fully deserved to take the three points but never reached the heights of recent performances.

| U12 Cup Match 17th Nov'07 Under 12 National Cup, Round 3. 17-11-2007, Leeds Park .
Leeds AFC. 2 Carrigaline Utd. AFC. 1
They say you learn more from a defeat than a victory , if this is so then the under 12 boys of Carrigaline are well on their to becoming rode scholars following their 2-1 defeat to premier outfit Leeds. For this was a game they could have won but lady luck stayed at home out of the wind and rain. Two players cried off with a ‘bug' as the team gathered to travel, five minutes into the game Padraig O Brien had to retire through illness. Sam Crumplin came in at right full back and with Conor Quinn, Aidain O Connor at centre backs and Chris Bannon at left full back they presented a formidable defence. Behind them Donal O Neill stepped into the vacancy created by the absence of regular keeper Mark O Shea. Donal's handling of the greasy ball in the appalling wet and windy conditions helped to curb the much vaunted threat of the Glanvin twins up front for Leeds. Eighteen minutes in, determined defending by Cumplin on Evan Glanvin, robbing him of the ball and passing to Carrig captain David Deasy who in turn found the in form Aaron Tang and he finished to the net in spite of pressure from defender and keeper. 1-0 to Carrig. With only two minutes to the break a speculative kick by Leeds Bryan Goulding had the slippery soap like ball evade arms and legs to nestle in the back of the net and level the scores 1-1. After the break Carrig's Darragh Corcoran, Aaron Drummond and Danny Smith upped their performance in an attempt to regain the lead but this was a very even contest. John Duggan began to pull the strings in midfield for Carrig and the chances emerged. Corcoran, Deasy and Drummond all saw their efforts go unrewarded, and then with 10 minutes remaining Carrigs efforts were undone. A ball the Carrig defence failed to deal with, fell to the diminutive winger Evan Glanvin and he touched the ball home. 2-1 to Leeds. David O Connor came on for Carrig.as they pushed for an equiliser but to no avail. Afterwards the deafening silence of the sad and dejected Garrigaline dressing room told its own story of what might have been. The lessons learned are tough to take but they are the foundation for future victories. Good luck to Leeds in the next round, hard luck to Carrigaline but there is lots of football to play yet.

| Intermediate Cup 2nd Round replay 18th Nov INTERMEDIATE CUP 2ND ROUND REPLAY.
CARRIGALINE UTD. AFC. 1 MIDLETON AFC. 0
Ballea Park, Sunday 18-11-07
‘Never mind the quality feel the win' best describes Carrigaline's 1-0 victory over Midleton in this intermediate cup 2nd round replay in an overcast and cold Ballea Park. The sides had finished 0-0 in the first game and again in this game goals were at a premium, with defences on top it was the intense physicality borne of playing at a higher level that proved to be crucial for Carrigaline over the 90 minutes. It was not a game for the faint hearted bur neither was it a game that was in danger of boiling over as referee Gene Stephens handled the game with a mature and common sense approach. Injuries, departures and suspensions have decimated this Carigaline side since the start of this season and within one minute of the start Steve Mangan came off with a reoccurrence of an old knee injury. His replacement Trevor Long was anxious to take up where he left off last week scoring the winner against Mayfield. Hugh Shields carried a threat up front for Carrigaline and shot over the bar on two minutes after good approach work by Ken Dennehy. But overall it was Midleton that were playing the better football. On 14th minute Duncan Mc Carthy drove a shot just over the bar from 35 yards, one minute later Hogan at right back moved into the edge the Carrig box and let fly with a long drive that had O Riordan in the Carrig goal going down to his right to save well. Duggan and Mahon for Midleton were winning the battles around midfield but it was when they encountered the Carrig back four that they were met with stiff resistance. Calum Jones, Alan Hennessey and Roy Coughlan were in mean mood and gave nothing away. However in Edwin Delaney they have an inspirational leader, someone who can walk the talk, time and again Edwin's booming clearances turned defence into attack. Carrigaline's best chance of the 1st half came from such a clearance. The Midleton keeper advanced at speed to the edge of his box and palmed the ball to the feet of Rory O Halloran, but Roos lob inched just wide of the right hand post. Midleton's best chance of the 1st half fell to Duncan McCarthy who following a corner, swivelled and shot just wide of O' Riordan's post. Half time the score remain 0-0.
Manager, Tony's O' Regan half time talk did the trick as the lethargic midfield and front men lifted their game in the second half. Cathal O Shea and Kieran Manly came thundering into the game. Hugh Shields rounded the keeper and seemed destined to score however centre half Mark Duggan cleared off the line. With 10 minutes gone in the half an innocuous free kick 40 yards from goal should have been delivered into the box to be competed for between backs and forwards. No one told Edwin Delaney and his powerfully stuck free found the back of the net to give Carrigaline the lead 1-0. Carrigaline were most definitely now on the ‘up' first Manley went close to scoring after beating two men on the left hand side but his right footed shot carried just wide. Next Calum Jones, played in on the left by a superb ball from Cathal O Shea, rounded the keeper only to have his effort stopped once again by Robert Duncan.Youth player Paddy Kelleher came on for the injured Roy and proved a handful for the Midleton defence. Time was ticking for the visitors and their frustration showed with two yellow cards flashed to Hogan and Mahon for lounges at Manley and O'Shea respectively. But the game was up for Midleton and Carrigaline were in control until the end. Congratulartions to Carrig. and good luck to them as they travel to Dublin on 9th December for the 3rd fixture. | U11 Div 1 weekend 11th Nov 07 U11 Div.1 Avondale Utd. 3 Carrigaline Utd. "A" 0 Carrigaline "A" team travelled to Beaumount recently to take on Avondale. The home team took the lead on 5 minutes when the Avondale striker turned sharply and sent a low drive to the bottom corner of the net. Carrigaline faced an barrage of pressure from the home team for the next 10 minutes but with goalkeeper and man of the match Kealan Daly in superb form Carrigaline worked their way into this game and caused Avondale a few problems and with a bit of luck might have gone in at the break on level terms. Carrigaline made 3 changes at half time and these players took up where their teamates left off with fine inter passing movements broke through Avondale's defence on a couple of occasions but it was not to be their day. Avondale regained the upper hand and had to work hard to score twice before the final whistle. This was fine performance from a Carrigaline team who have had a tough time so far but the signs are very promising for the future. All 16 players played superbly and can feel proud of the effort and good football they produced on the day.

| FAI Junior Cup 11th Nov '07 JUNIOR'S PROGRESS IN FAI JUNIOR CUP
FAI Junior Cup 3rd Round Carrigaline United 3 v Marlboro Trust 1
Carrigaline got the better of there opponents on Sunday morning thanks to a very good team performance. After a busy opening 20 minutes for both sides, Carrig broke the deadlock when Johnathon Murphy played a great ball to Stephen Griffin on the edge of the box. He took a touch, turned in one movement and curled an absolute beauty into the top corner of the net. Griffin and strike partner Glen Bruton tormented Marlboro's defence all day and linked well for Carrig's next two goals. Grriffin went clear on the right and put a great cross in which Bruton attacked and nodded home Carrig's second. The third was a carbon copy. Again, Griffin broke free of the visitors defence and squared the ball to Bruton who finished in style for his second and Carrig's third. Marlboro never gave up though and to their credit scored a consolation goal with 5 minutes to go. Joe Monaghan pounced on a loose ball in Carrig's box and stabbed it into the goal. An entertaining game all round and the lads are looking forward to their next game in the Cup !!

| Munster Senior Cup 2nd Round Munster Senior Cup 2nd Round 10-11-2007, Mayfield Park, Mayfield Utd, AFC. 1. V Carrigalline Utd. AFC 2.
As we watched this entertaining Munster Senior Cup 2nd round tie the unusually mild and bright November Saturday weather did it its best to hide the winter from us. Mayfield started well and Dermot Ryan's flying header from a corner within 2 minutes of the start should have them ahead. But it was the visitors who settled the better with John Harrington and Steve Mangan winning the midfields battles early on ,with Mangan in particular relishing the physical challenges. Up front for Carrig. Luke Noonan proved a handful for the home defence and two chances on the 20thand 21st minutes when he shot narrowly wide and over underlined his threat. With 32minutes on the clock Kieran Manley brought a good save from Eamon Breen in the Mayfield goal following a neat flick from Steve Mangan on the edge of the box. On the 38th minute a double save from Carrig keeper Peter O Riordan the first from Paul Triggs and the follow up from David Kenny were top class. Two minutes later the same David Kenny missed a glorious chance when he sided footed over from 8 yards out with the keeper stranded and the gaping goal to aim at. That let off for Carrig. meant the sides went in level 0-0 at half time. Within a minute of the restart Steve Mangan went off with an injury to be replaced by Alan O Driscoll while Ken Dennehy came on for Hugh Shields after 15 minutes. The game continued in a even fashion with chances falling to both sides the best coming from a free kick on the left hand side of the box by Mayfields Mick Looney when his flighted free kick came back off the cross bar with O Riordan beaten. On the 30th minute, Carrigs. John Harrington was fouled on the edge of the box, Calum Jones free found Ken Dennehy, whose header back across the goal was met by the determined run of Jones and he finished to the net giving Carrig. the lead 1-0. Mayfield introduced Brendan Cronin and Ambrose Sang as they sought the equalizer and it was Cronin's free in the 44th minute touched home by Dermot Ryan that brought Mayfield level. As the game headed into time added on and with extra time looming a break on the by Jones for Carrig found the free running Noonan whose shot was parried by Breen only to see the ball slotted home by the determined Trevor Long and give Carrigaline the winner in the 46th minute. Final score, Mayfield 1. Carrigaline Utd. 2.
Carrigaline go into the hat for the third round draw while Mayfield must be glad to see the back of the visitors, having already lost out to them in the Intermediate Cup they now find themselves out of the Munster Senior Cup. Referee Tony Murphy was unpredictable and booked 3 players in what was very clean game played in a good spirit. Carrigaline manager Tony O Regan was understandable pleased with his teams performance but bemoaned the fact that his injury list continues to grow. He also echoed his teams best wishes to John Harrington as John begins the ubiquitous 'gap year' to Australia, Good luck John! Report by Paudie O Brien
| FAI Intermediate Cup CARRIGALINE TAKE MIDLETON BACK TO BALLEA TO DECIDE INTERMEDIATE CUP 2ND ROUND TIE
FAI Intermediate Cup Midleton – 0 Carrigaline United - 0
This tie had all the makings of the classic cup contest, the side from the lower Division fancying a chance to upset their Premier Division rivals with both home venue and a vocal local support behind them, and so it proved. The only thing lacking was the winner but both sides will no doubt be grateful for a second shot at that title.
Midleton as expected started the game apace and had Carrigaline pinned back early on bringing players into the game from midfield and the back four to launch ball after ball into the Carrigaline box. Edwin Delaney mopped up everything that Midleton threw his direction and his steel in defence was the focal point as Carrigaline grew into the contest. John Harrington and Tony Houlihan were causing problems on both wings but Hugh Shields and Steve Mangan were finding it hard to get anything out of a determined Midleton back four. Twenty five minutes in Carrigaline broke down the left and with a clever ball over the top by Tony Houlihan, Hugh Shields found himself one on one with the keeper but failed to hit the target on his weaker left foot. Five minutes later Houlihan broke through himself and spotting the keeper off his line took the effort early but off balance and his effort too went wide of the mark. Carrigaline weren't having it all their own way. A series of well rehearsed Midleton corners picked out their big centre forward at the back post who headed back across goal for the incoming midfield. The third nearly opened the scoring when a goalbound driven half volley from ten yards was superbly blocked by Peter Riordain in the Carrigaline goal low to his right. All square at the break. With Sean O'Connor substituted just before half time and Alan Hennessy slotting into the back four Carrigaline took the early part of the second half to adjust. Midleton perhaps sensing the indecision came at the away team but with Roy Coughlan and Cathal O'Shea in superb form in the full back positions they made little headway. Two sendings off in the space of ten minutes mid way through the half, both for fairly innocuous challenges deemed second yellow cards in each case opened up the spaces and suddenly chances came at both ends. Tony Houlihan and John Harington's fitness levels were causing Midleton great problems late into the game and Hugh Shields almost wrapped it up in the last minutes but for an excellent smothering save by the advancing Midleton keeper. The final whistle closed out an excellent cup tie and both sides left the field to well earned and appreciative applause from the sizeable crowd.
The departing supporters from both sides had the last word and agreed that the draw did the contest justice and set up what should be another cracking contest in Ballea Park in a fortnights time. Who knows….. it could be the start of another Carrigaline Cup adventure Report by Seamus Gallagher

Wilton United 1. Carrigaline United 2.
After a recent 1-1 draw with Ringmahon Rangers, Carrigaline got back to winning ways with a well-deserved 2-1 victory over a very game Wilton team. Matthew O'Reilly bagged a first half brace to secure the points for the away team. His first goal was created by a defence splitting pass from Mark Linehan, which O'Reilly calmly slotted into the far corner. This goal brought the best out of the Wilton boys who pressed hard for the equaliser. However they found it very difficult to create clear-cut chances against a determined Carrigaline defence. Wilton did equalise 5 minutes before the interval after breaking swiftly from a Carrigaline corner. Catching Carrigaline cold they raced up the field and the Wilton front-man made no mistake when one-on-one with Andris Bacuna. On the brink of half time Carrigaline recaptured the lead after skilful play on the wing from Alan Connolly. His precision pass into the danger area was clinically dispatched by striker Matthew O'Reilly. Half time substitute Ryan McCarthy created some great chances only to be foiled by a string of fine saves from the Wilton custodian. This led to a pulsating finish with only the narrowest of margins separating the teams. However goalkeeper Bacuna made some vital clearances and saves to ensure Carrig ran out winners. For Carrigaline, Darragh Buckley, Brian Coakley and Micháel Beausang impressed throughout while Darragh Greally and Adam Cohalan performed very well when introduced in the second half.
Squad: Andris Bacuna, Micháel Beausang, Darragh Buckley, Kieran Kavanagh, Séan Brophy, Ryan McCarthy, David Corkery, Brian Coakley, Mark Linehan, Matthew O'Reilly, Alan Connolly, Darragh Greally, Adam Cohalan, Clyde Buttimer, Daniel O'Reilly, Brían Fitzpatrick, Cathal Murphy.

Carrigaline United 4- 0 Park United Carrigaline United U/16 Premier team continued their impressive start to the season with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Park United at Ballea Park on Sunday. The team started in determined fashion and created a host of good chances, but with no luck in front of goal and a Park United keeper in fine form the first goal was a long time coming. Simon Holland was the scorer when his shot from the edge of the area found the bottom corner 10 minutes before half time.
It was not until 15 minutes into the second half that the second arrived when a Park defender poked the ball beyond his keeper after good play by Dave Drake. This seemed to knock the heart of a despondent Park outfit. The third was scored by Neil O'Donovan, who was making a welcome return from a serious knee injury. Wayne Bruton scored the fourth having earlier stuck the crossbar twice. Overall it was a good performance by the team Report by Barry Duggan

| ACADEMY AWARDS AND PAT ALLEN DAY The Carrigaline United Soccer Academy held their prize giving fun-day on Saturday the 16th of June, which proved to be a wonderful day for the 200 or so children (under 10's) involved in the club. Mini tournaments were organised by coaches while ice-creams were handed out by our dedicated helpers, monies were also collected in aid of Down Syndrome Ireland, and finally the awards were handed out for players of the year and clubmen of the year by chairman Willie Walsh.
The annual “Pat Allen" prize giving and sports awards day took place last Saturday the 23rd of June at Ballea Park. The day, which is aimed at the schoolboy and schoolgirl teams of the club, is a fantastic event in memory of the late Pat Allen or as he's otherwise remembered “Mr Schoolboy Soccer". The Pat Allen perpetual Trophy was presented by Olivia Allen to Kian Buckley who received the award for his dedication, his improvement over the past year and his fantastic attitude and approach to schoolboy soccer- everything Pat would have admired in a player. The events took place between 2p.m. and 6p.m. and gave children and parents alike a chance to enjoy the end of season fun-day while also raising funds for Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI). These annual events are wonderful example of the club motto; “Football for all" and they are a testament to the many volunteers and dedicated coaches involved with underage football in our community and who are vital in nurturing the future of our club. This year there is the added sense of nostalgia to these events in that it is the last year that they will take place on the lower pitch due to an upcoming development of club facilities. Our many thanks to all our volunteers, committee, parents and members who helped in making both days a great success.

| M.S.L. SENIORS RETAIN THEIR PREMIER DIVISION STATUS Carrigaline United 2 Mayfield United 1 The M.S.L. Seniors faced a dramatic end to their season on Saturday when they faced Mayfield at home. This year it has been more enthralling at the bottom of the table than at the top where Rockmount retained their league crown, once again. Carrigaline weren't the only team on the brink of relegation, and in the past week the endless possibilities to the eventual outcome of who would claim that last relegation spot were played with time and again. In actual fact the tightness of this division meant that the idea of a three way tie between Carrigaline, U.C.C. and Mayfield for the final relegation spot was just one of those very real possibilities, and while Carrigaline faced Mayfield, U.C.C. faced an undefeated Rockmount, both kicking off at 3p.m. Please visit the M.S.L Senior page for a full match report. | |

| GREAT WIN FOR CARRIG SENIORS! Senior M.S.L Castleview 1 Carrigaline United 2 Carrigaline United travelled to Castleview on Wednesday. With both teams on level points, this promised to be a gripping fixture. After a gutsy performance form the Carrig seniors on Sunday at O' Shea park, they were determined from the outset that no less than three points would do. Ten minutes in, and a fantastic shot from Scott O' Regan from outside the box found the back of the net, 1-0 Carrigaline. The home side were not going to give up quietly though and with just five minutes before half-time, Castleview scored from a free kick which was headed on target into the net, 1-1. Carrig never let the home side get the better of them, with fantastic runs from both John Harrington and Danny Kelly, who were tireless in their quest for three points. With twenty minutes to go Danny Kelly had another superb run yet was taken down and once again to the dismay of the Carrig side, the referee ignored their pleas for a penalty. Tony Houlihan found himself inches from victory just minutes later, with a great ball from Calum Jones, which unfortunately just stuck to his feet allowing the Castleview keeper to recover in time. He was rewarded with just seven minutes from time when a John Harrington corner found him at the far side of the box and this time he made sure it found the back of the net, 2-1 Carrig. The Senior side deserved to take home all three points which now sees them fifth on 22 points along with Avondale who they face this Bank Holiday Monday, Ballea Park, 3p.m. | |
| Excellent Weekend for Carrigaline United Senior M.S.L. Carrigaline United 2 Blarney United 2 The senior M.S.L. team faced their old rivals Blarney United on a glorious Sunday morning at O'Shea park. Their past encounters have proved to be some of the most memorable and enthralling clashes, and this fixture lived up to everyone's expectations. From the whistle Carrigaline proved they were up for the challenge ahead, yet after testing each other for twenty minutes, Carrigaline found themselves 1-0 down at the hands of a fantastic shot which deceived the Carrig goalkeeper. Carrig ended the half pressurising the Blarney defence determined to get one back. They were rewarded their just desserts one minute into the second half when a fumble by the Blarney goalkeeper was taken advantage of by Scott O' Regan who slotted it home, 1-1. Now both teams had a battle on their hands. Carrigaline dominated with a great display of football and thought it was finally their day when John Harrington found the back of the net from a great move in the midfield, yet the linesman controversially called offside to the disbelief of everyone at O'Shea park. Another contentious decision came five minutes later when the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Blarney penalty, 2-1. After all Carrigaline's hard work they thought it was to be the same old story, yet with just ten minutes from time John Harrington was finally rewarded for his efforts with a well taken strike from just inside the box, 2-2. Carrigaline had yet another chance with only five minutes from time, the Blarney keeper making a fantastic save. The constant pressure and hard work from Carrigaline was all in vain when the referee blew the final whistle. With one point Carrigaline now have nineteen points along with Castleview and Douglas Hall. The Seniors now visit Castleview this Wednesday evening and Avondale at Ballea Park Easter Monday.

A.U.L County Cup Second Round Carrigaline United 2 St John Boscos 1 Carrigaline United AUL Juniors faced St John Boscos in the second round of the County Cup on Sunday at Ballea Park. Carrigaline have had great runs this season in the cups and were keen to continue this trend. Facing a team from the first division, Carrigaline would have been considered underdogs for this game. However the difference in league placings was not that apparent as Carrigaline took control of this game from the kick off. Within ten minutes Carrigaline had enough chances to be three goals ahead. First Eddie Kelly had his long drive turned around the post, then Derek O'Connor had efforts cleared off the line by the St John Boscos keeper. The breakthrough did come after 22 minutes when Rob Meade played a clever ball between the Boscos defence for Eddie Kelly to run onto. Kelly took the ball to the byline and drilled the ball across the face of the goal for Derek McCarthy to slide into the six yard box and smash the ball into the roof of the net to make it 1-0 to Carrigaline. Five minutes after going ahead Carrigaline were given a warning by St John Boscos when a 25 yard shot had to pushed over by Kevin Murphy. From the resulting corner Boscos were allowed a free header which went inches wide. This gave Boscos an extra gear and when Kevin Murphy and Dan O'Driscoll didn't clear a ball away and a corner kick was given to Boscos they took their chance with a near post header to make it 1-1. The remainder of the first half was played in the middle of the park where Rob Meade and Rob Cogan had plenty of work to do in containing St John Boscos central midfielders. Carrigaline took advantage of the interval and came out and attacked Boscos from the restart. Anthony Murphy, Eddie Kelly and Dan O'Driscoll all had chances to put Carrigaline ahead but lacked the final finish required. Jerry Harrington replaced Anthony Murphy and immediately started to give the Boscos defence a headache with his constant running. When Harrington was awarded a free kick just on the 18 yard line in the 70th minute, up stepped Eddie Kelly to curl a fantastic shot over the wall and into the bottom corner of the Boscos net. This was Kellys 16th goal of the season. A great return from 13 games!! From then in there was only one team in the game with Carrigaline United in full control. Carrigaline had several more chances to stretch their lead. Jerry Harrington came closest when he received a pass from Barry Houlihan and struck from 35 yards only to see his shot hit the outside of the upright. Carrigaline saw the game out to win 2-1. A solid performance from Carrigaline to go with a great result puts them into the last 16 of the County Cup. Carrigaline United AUL's now face a very tough ten days with 3 league games coming up against Bishopstown, Grattan and Ballinhassig. Currently 4 points off the top of the table with two games in hand, these upcoming games are vital if Carrigaline are to have a shot of winning the league this season.
U17 Youth League Wilton Utd 0 Carrigaline Utd 1 Carrigaline kept their title challenge on track with a deserved away victory against Wilton on Friday night. Carrigaline had the better of the chances in the first half, with Niall Coakley shooting narrowly wide when sent through by a clever pass from Paddy Kelleher. Kyle Kinsella forced the Wilton keeper to make a superb save when his sweetly struck left footed drive looked goalbound. Anything Wilton threw at Carrigaline was comfortably dealt with by some sterling defending by Darren Kelly and Cathal McGuinness, who were excellent at the back for Carrig. The second half saw Kyle McEnery and Paddy Kelleher win the midfield battle and this helped create chances for Coakley and the hard working Gary Ronayne. The breakthrough eventually came 15 minutes into the second half. David Manley won a ball on the right flank and released Stephen Power with a fine through ball. Power let fly from 25 yards out and his thunderbolt found the top corner of the net, giving the Wilton keeper no chance. Carrigaline weren't content to sit on a one nil lead and for the remainder of the half they continued to threaten the Wilton goal, coming close on a number of occasions. Wilton threw numbers up front in the last 10 minutes to try and force a draw, but centre back Brian Giltinan and goalkeeper James O'Reilly made sure Carrigaline kept a clean sheet.

| WAXATHON 2007 The annual Waxathon proved to be a rip-roaring success last Saturday the 31st March. With no less than fifteen volunteers for waxing, head shaving, and moustache shaving, it was perhaps Debbie (Debbie's Beauty Clinic), Trish (Dublin Hill Hair and Beauty) and Caroline's (Caroline's Barbers) toughest challenge yet. The whole event was centred on raising money for The Children's Leukaemia Association- The Mercy University Hospital, and while sponsorship and fundraising is still coming in it is estimated that volunteers, members and supporters have raised in the region of €10,000 for this fantastic cause. While many of our volunteers had to endure the pain of having their legs, chests and even underarms waxed we're sure their pain was somewhat eased by the tremendous support they received on the night and over the past few weeks, knowing that their few minutes of torture is for a fantastic cause. Carrigaline United A.F.C. would like to thank the many contributors to last Saturday's event, our generous sponsors, organisers, DJ Roy Scully, hard-working barber and beauticians and a special mention to our volunteers: Gavin O'Leary, Paul Monks, Willie Rosbourgh, Bryan Jackson, Trevor O' Driscoll, Tony Houlihan, John Buckley, Ken Dennehy, Pat Torpey, Paul Walsh, Noel Moynihan, Willie Walsh, Ger Roche, Paudie O' Brien and Jim Welch. Our thanks to everyone who helped in making this wonderful event possible. Visit the photo gallery to see pictures of the event. | |
Best for Carrigaline Sam Healy, Luke Williams & John Maxwell Under 11 Div 1 Carrigaline Utd 1 Castleview 3 The "A" team started their second game in four days when played host to Castleview, The early morning kick off did not suit Carrigaline as they found themselves one down after two minutes when swift play let the Castleview forwards through to score.Carrigaline found it hard to come to terms with the speed of the Catleview forwards and were three down after 20 minutes .Jack Howard and Sam Fitzgibbon began to control the midfield with tigerish tackles which broke down the Castleview attacks and setting up the home team forwards of Ethan Mcauliffe and Ricky Power who slowly began to trouble the visitors defence and went close on a couple of ocasions. Best for Carrigaline; Jack howard,Sam Fitzgibbon,Stephen Holden The Club would like to express their thanks to Gerry Fitzpatrick General Manager of Flextronics Dublin Hill Cork for their kind Sponsorship of a new set of jerseys for the under 11 "A" team. | |
