You may have seen the posters up around Carrigaline regarding the football and entertainment extravaganza taking place at Ballea Park on St.Stephen’s Day.
In association with the Carrigaline Lions Club and Carrigaline GAA, Carrigaline United will be hosting a Family Fun Day, starting at 1.30pm.
Among the planned events is a match between a Carrigaline United Senior selection against a Carrigaline GAA side. There will be no compromise in the rules here, it will purely be (association) football played on deck of the superb Ballea Park astro surface.
There is a saying that goes… ‘If God wanted football to be played in the air, he would have put grass there’. Well the same applies to synthetic grass and the GAA boys will be keen to show that they can string a few passes together on the ground with their feet as well as in the air. But everyone is dying to know, can they stop the Carrigaline Utd association footballers??? Better go easy on the Turkey on Christmas Day lads….......
Also included in the day’s events will be penalty shootouts, crossbar challenges, bouncy castles for the kids, marquee and music from DJ ROY.
We would like to thank Kieran Crotty and Pat Allen for their involvement in the organisation of this event. Hopefully Young Crotty will be making an appearance on the pitch as an added bonus. We would also like to thank Nicholas Murphy and Alan Murphy of Carrigaline GAA and the Carrigaline Lions Club Committee.
Last but not least, we thank Paddy Cronin and Rosies Bar for their sponsorship of the event. Who knows Paddy himself might even tog out and show us a few skills on the pitch. Rumour has it he has been tearing up the Nightowls leagues on Tuesday nights at Garyduff.
It promises to be a great day. Whatever plans you may have had lined up for St.Stephen’s Day this year, you better cancel them now and make sure you get to Ballea Park. Happy Christmas and see you there!
A 70’s & 80’s night will take place in the clubhouse on Saturday night November 7th.
